About Us

As a 4th generation funeral director, Fred has been influential at the local and state levels of the Funeral Directors Association’s throughout his 60-year career. He is the former owner of John F. Slater Funeral Home in Brentwood, past President of the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association, and past member of the State Board of Funeral Directors. Fred graduated from Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science (1953) and Brentwood High School (1948).

Fred (the late Virginia (Eber) Slater) resided in Jefferson Hills but now lives in Scott Twp. He is very proud to work with his sons Steve and Tim, and his grandson Drew. Fred also enjoys spending time with his family and singing in the choir at Pleasant Hills Presbyterian Church.

Owner and operator since 1998, Steve is a 5th generation funeral director. He graduated from Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science (1981), College of Wooster, Ohio (1980), and Baldwin High School (1976).

Steve is married to Reverend Judi (Ralph) Slater, a graduate of Elizabeth Forward High School and minister of the First Presbyterian Church of Duquesne. They are the proud parents of Jennifer (Matthew) Adams, Nick (Jena) Matty, and Drew (Regina) Slater; proud grandparents of Ellie, Jack, Brett, Sophie, Bennett & Alex. Steve sings in his church choir, volunteers as a church youth leader, and enjoys snow and water skiing. Steve has been an active member of Pleasant Hills Rotary since 1995, serving as President on 5 different occasions and serving as a Trustee / Treasurer of the Allegheny County Funeral Directors Association.

Owner and operator of Timothy K. Slater Funeral Services in Mount Oliver (formerly Howard A. Farnsworth Funeral Home), Tim is a 5th generation funeral director. He graduated from Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science (1998), College of Wooster, Ohio (1985), and South Park High School (1980).

Tim lives in Bethel Park with his wife DeeAnn (Krepps) Slater and two daughters, Tristian & Adriane. His well-rounded background includes working at all of the Slater funeral homes, teaching for the Roman Catholic Dioceses of Pittsburgh, serving as the music director at Lebanon Presbyterian Church, and currently Choir Director at Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church.

A graduate of Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science (2010), Waynesburg University (2009), and Thomas Jefferson High School (2005) Drew is a 6th generation funeral director. He works with his father (Steve), grandfather (Fred), and uncle (Tim).

Drew lives in Jefferson Hills with his wife, Regina (Strong) Slater, sons, Brett & Bennett, and dog Zero. He enjoys water skiing, roller and ice hockey, and tennis. He is a member of the Allegheny County Funeral Directors Association where he has served as President and is a Deacon at Duquesne Presbyterian Church.
