William “Bill”
Bill Petre, age 81, of Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania (formerly of Venetia, PA), died on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at home with his wife by his side. Born October 13, 1939, the eldest of four sons of Robert S. and Virginia (Randall) Petre.
Bill was a steelworker at the Irvin Works Plant, for 34 years, ultimately retiring from electrical maintenance. He was a proud member of the U.S. Air Force, serving his time in Japan.
He met his wife, Betty, on a blind date 47 years ago, and had been happily married for the past 35 years. Proud father of son, William, Jr (Vicki) Petre of Fredericksburg, VA, daughter, Sandra Petre (Michael Nath), of Monongahela, PA, stepson, Richard (Maureen) White, and two stepdaughters, Betsy White of Brooklyn, NY, and Amy White Matyas of Jefferson Hills, PA. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, Christie, Melinda and Billy Petre, Marie and Virginia Kellerman, Travis and Macey White, and Jack and Alyssa Matyas and his 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jim. He’s also survived by his brothers, Robert (the late Linda) Petre and David Petre and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bill loved to read, explore the USA, work jigsaw puzzles, go fishing with his grandson, Jack, and tinker in his garage. His latest enjoyment was watching the progress Michael was making on restoring Bill’s 1930 Chevrolet, which he’s owned since he was 17. He was a member of the Mingo Rod and Gun Club.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff on T7 and T8 at West Penn Hospital for their care and kindness.
Friends will be received on Sunday, February 28, 2021 from 2 – 6 PM in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 Route 51 Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania 15025 (412-384-0350). His funeral service will held on Monday, March 1, 2021 at 10 AM with Pastor Kathy Clark of Jefferson United Methodist Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Bill's honor to the National Parks Service www.nps.gov or to your local library or to Bill's favorite library: the Jefferson Hills Public Library www.jeffersonhillslibrary.org
