Shirley Ann Weis, age 88, a longtime resident of the Wilson section of Clairton, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 following a long and courageous battle with dementia. She was born on September 11, 1935 in Martins Ferry, OH to Wayne and Viola Speece Mellott. Shirley was raised in Clairton where she met Harry J. Weis. The two were married in November 1957, and spent almost 43 years together before Harry's death in 2000. Together they raised two daughters and later enjoyed time spent with their grandchildren.
Shirley graduated from Clairton High School and took her first job as an Executive Secretary at US Steel. She left the workforce to raise her daughters and was fully committed to being a loving homemaker. She enjoyed baking, sewing, crocheting, cake decorating and was an avid reader. She was known for her beautifully crocheted blankets and intricately decorated cakes. Shirley later returned to work at the Clairton City School District where she retired in 1998.
She was a member of the Wilson Civic Association where she enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her friends. Saturdays were spent shopping with her daughter Sandy. She looked forward to the many sporting events of her grandchildren and her annual family trips to Rehoboth Beach. She was a member of Pine Run United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her two daughters, Susan Weis Mayer (Michael) and Sandra Weis Uhlyar (Joseph), and three grandchildren, Matthew Mayer, Zachary Uhlyar and Alexa Uhlyar. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Beth Mellott and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by three brothers, Clifford Mellott, Kenneth Mellott and William Mellott and one sister, Nancy Mellott.
