RONALD J. MATHERS
Ronald J. Mathers, age 74, of West Elizabeth, Pennsylvania, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at his home with family by his side. He was born May 30, 1940 in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania and was 1 of 10 children of William and Caroline (Ophfer) Mathers.
Ron was a mechanic at Hercules in West Elizabeth and a police officer for the departments in Elizabeth, West Elizabeth and Union Township. He was a 32 nd degree Mason, an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, and he had a love of antique cars and going to car shows.
In addition to his parents and all of his siblings, he was preceded in death by his wife Alice (Blank) Mathers in 2003. Ron is survived by 3 children, Kathleen Barone, Michael (Sharmon) Beech, and Karen Criss; 7 grandchildren, Sandra Sapko, Emily Crouse, Natalie Beech, John Criss, Joshua Criss, Michael Beech II and Edison Beech; 2 great-grandchildren; his dear friend Nancy Halt and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the Stephen D Slater Funeral Home 1701 Route 51 (Large) in Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, July 1 st from 2 – 4 and 6 – 9 PM and Wednesday, July 2 nd from 10 until - 11AM at which time his funeral service will be held in the funeral home with Reverend Hal Dangel officiating. Entombment with Military Honors will follow in Jefferson Memorial Park Cemetery in Pleasant Hills, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
