RICHARD JOYCE
Richard “Rick” Joyce, age 84 of Pleasant Hills, Pennsylvania died on Monday, January 27, 2020. He was born Richard Gwyer Joyce one of six children of John and Elizabeth (Gwyer) Joyce on March 27, 1935 in Monessen, Pennsylvania. Rick grew up in Monessen, graduating from Monessen High School in 1953 and Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania in 1957. He served in the US Army and Army Reserves during the peacetime after the Korean War and before Vietnam; he was a member of the American Legion Post 712 in Pleasant Hills and had a long career in sales for 3M Corporation and Hillenbrand Industries.
Rick was a 60 year member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, a founding member of the church’s choir, a Canter and part of the group of choir members who sang at the Vatican for Pope John Paul II. He was a life long Notre Dame fan known for making numerous trips to South Bend for football games.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four of his siblings, Mary, Jack and Raymond Joyce and Bette Norma (late Michael) Cushman. Rick is survived by his wife, Anne Marie (Persico) Joyce; four children, Richard T. Joyce, Eileen (David) Andros, John P. (Susan) Joyce and Laura (Perry) Beck; four grandchildren, Lauren (Dan) Virgin, Stephen Richard Andros and Jeffrey and Jennifer Joyce; two great granddaughters, Eva Alyse and Emilia Grace Virgin; his brother, Robert (Mary Ruth) Joyce and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 Route 51 Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania 15025 (412-384-0350) on Friday, January 31, 2020 from 3 – 8 PM. There will be a prayer in the funeral home on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 9:15 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church at 10 am. Burial will follow in Jefferson Memorial Park Cemetery in Pleasant Hills.
Rick enjoyed many annual reunions with his 1953 Monessen class mates!
