Marcia Ann Plumb passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at the age of 83 in Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, after a rapid decline in health. Marcia was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, one of three children of H. James and Esther Mary (Upton) McLellan, growing up in McKeesport’s 10th Ward.
After graduating from McKeesport High School, she attended Slippery Rock State College, where she studied elementary education. An active life-long leader and volunteer, she lent her considerable gifts to a wide variety of civic organizations, including service as past President of the McKeesport Hospital Junior Committee, and long-time volunteer in the Hospital Gift Shop; an active member of P.E.O. Chapter G, granting higher educational scholarships to deserving young women; and a current Board Member, Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Elizabeth, Pennsylvania. A long-time member of Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church, Marcia served as an elder, deacon and past President of the Women’s Association. Additionally, she was an active golfer and member of Youghiogheny Country Club, and a competitive bridge player who participated in a number of bridge clubs.
Predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard W. Plumb and two brothers, James McLellan and Richard McLellan (Barbara), she is survived by daughter, Christine Plumb Haythorn (Edward) of Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, son, R. Mark Plumb (Linda) of Glade Hill, Virginia, grandsons, Evan, Owen and Ryan Haythorn of Jefferson Hills, Scott Haythorn (Meghan) of Knoxville, Tennessee, Michael Plumb (Kelly) of Richmond, Virginia, and great grandson, Colin Plumb of Richmond.
Friends and family will be received at the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home, 1701 Route 51, Jefferson Hills, PA 15025, on Sunday, September 30, 2018 from 1 pm to 6 pm. Additionally, friends may meet with the family between 1 pm and 2 pm in the Fellowship Hall of Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church, 199 Old Clairton Road, Pleasant Hills, Pennsylvania 15236, on Monday, October 1, 2018. A 2 pm worship service will follow in the Sanctuary of the church. A private interment will take place in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Elizabeth, Pennsylvania at a later date.
Marcia was devoted to her family and many friends, with whom she shared her love of a good argument, along with her sense of humor, fierce loyalty, gracious generosity and hospitality.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given in Marcia’s memory to Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church or to P.E.O.
