Marcia Colgan, 71, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025. Marcia Hentsch from McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania was born July 26, 1953, to her parents John and Pearl Hentsch.
Marcia was best known for her kindness. She may have been small in stature, but she had a huge heart. She was selfless and supported those she loved. She endured a lot through her life, but she was tough and resilient. She didn’t like to burden others and often apologized when asking for help.
Marcia was fortunate to have the opportunity to travel and loved to visit new places. Several times she visited her family in Kansas City and loved spending time with all the great nieces and nephews. She spent a week in Treasure Island, Florida visiting Kristy and Anthony and got to see dolphins on a boat trip in the Gulf. She spent 10 days in Hawaii with Kathy, Rick, Kristy, Anthony, Seth, Sandie (and kids) and enjoyed some time at the famous Waimea beach. She was also lucky to take the trip of a lifetime to visit Kristy and Anthony in New Zealand. She tried local Cookie Time cookies, rode the gondola up to see amazing views of Queenstown, took the trans-alpine train over the mountains from Christchurch to Greymouth, explored the city of Christchurch, and even briefly danced with a stranger in a bar!
In recent years there have been a few people in Marcia’s life that spent a lot of time with her and ensured she was being well taken care of. Mary Lou, friend and neighbor, would enjoy chatting with a coffee and talking about the happenings in their building. Joan, cousin and friend, would spend hours talking on the phone about their families, the fun times of the past, and current activities in their lives. Sandy, friend, would enjoy lunches out, ice cream at DQ, shopping, and just spend time talking about life. Kayla came into Marcia’s life as a caregiver but quickly became a friend. Marcia relied on Kayla with chores around the house, making her nice meals, driving her to appointments, but most enjoyed her company and conversations. Ruth and Marcia became friends through church. Ruth and Marcia spoke daily, spent lots of time together, and shared a love of cats. Ruth provided continued support, gave assistance around the house, and was available to help Marcia in any way she could. All these people made Marcia smile and laugh, and she was happy to have them in her life.
Marcia is survived by her daughters Kristy (Anthony) Liberatore and Kelly (Lenny) Niemetz. Proud grandmother of Logan and Landon Niemetz. She also leaves behind her sister Kathy (Rick) Hanebutt, nephew Seth (Sandie) Hanebutt, niece Gretchen (Jay) Schroeder, as well as her beloved great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sister Barb, her father John, and her mother Pearl.
A service will be held for family at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of South Hills (418 Maxwell Dr, Pittsburgh, PA 15236) at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 24, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in her honor to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or Hillman Cancer Center (Make a Gift | Donate to UPMC Hillman Cancer Center).
