FLORA REBECCA BILLS
Flora Bills passed away on February 21, 2023, peacefully in her sleep. She fought Covid-19 related pneumonia for 4 months.
Flora was born on January 3rd, 1935, in a small Scottish coal mining town in Maryland, called Lonaconing. The locals referred to town as “Coney”. Her favorite saying was that she was 5 days older than Elvis, and he has left the building.
She was a wandering soul. The family moved from Maryland to Michigan in 1953. This was for her father, David Ellsworth Machin, to find work other than coal mining. The rest of the family that moved was her mother, Mae (Stevenson) Machin and her brother David Randall “Randy” Machin.
Flora married Verle Claude Bills in 1954 and they had a daughter, Cheryl Lynn Bills.
In 1978, she was transferred to California. She was an accountant, and her boss sent her to California to straighten out his business. So she and Cheryl moved to California. Then, in 2022, when Cheryl retired, they moved back east to Pennsylvania.
During her life, Flora has had some interesting circumstances. She was in the vicinity when Jimmy Hoffa disappeared. She was on the freeway when OJ Simpson led his slow chase, and she met Dick Van Dyke. Flora was a Girl Scout leader for years and she liked to say that the Girl Scouts helped to raise her daughter.
Flora is survived by her, daughter, Cheryl (Bills) Chivers and her brother, Randy Machin. She will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Mom, “sleep well and rest” in peace.
