DR. JOHN WARD, JR.

Dr. John Ward, Jr., age 87, died peacefully at his home in Whitehall Borough, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Saturday, August 5, 2023.  Formerly a long-time resident of Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, he was born on August 21, 1935, in Denbo, Washington County, Pennsylvania, a son of John T. Ward and Ann (Snock) Ward.

John was a Principal in the West Jefferson Hills School District at Gill Hall Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Pleasant Hills Elementary, and Pleasant Hills Middle School before retiring in 1993. He was dedicated to his students throughout his career.  Before his education career, John served in the Army during the late 1950’s, the period between Korea and Vietnam.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Loysann (Crump) Ward in 2006, his son David Ward, earlier this year, his brothers, Bill and Don Ward and his sisters, Florence Gilbert and Bertha Policz.  He is survived by his son John “Chris” (Tina) Ward of Charlotte, North Carolina and daughter Laura Ward of Bentonville, Arkansas; his daughter-in-law, Debra Ward of Sewickley, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Ariana and Amelia Ward and two sisters, Mary (Charles) Lutton and Martha (Edward) Shipley.

Friends will be receiving on Sunday, August 6, 2023, from 3 – 7 PM in the Stephen D Slater Funeral Home 1701 State Route 51 (Large) Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania (412-384-0350) www.stephendslater.com.  John’s funeral service will be held on Monday, August 7, 2023, at 11 AM in the funeral home with Reverend Walt Pietschmann of the Olivet Presbyterian Church officiating.  Interment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Park Cemetery in Pleasant Hills, Pennsylvania.
