Dr. Walter A. Severyn, D.D.S. age 90, of Pleasant Hills (Pittsburgh), Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, January 3, 2024, in the game room that he built over 50 years ago in his home. He was born October 11, 1933, in Canonsburg, PA, one of 12 children, a son of Anthony and Louise Mikulic Severyn.
Walter was a graduate of Canonsburg High School, Loyola University Chicago and the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. After completing dental school, he proudly joined the US Air Force as a Captain spending most of his service in Iceland and at Wright Patterson AFB. Following his military service, he started his dental practice serving the South Hills of Pittsburgh community. On November 21, 1964, he married Marcella Hornbake.
He enjoyed gardening (especially the heirloom tomatoes that his father brought from Poland), flying model RC airplanes, golf, playing his harmonica and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his six brothers, Stan, Chet, Hank, Ted, Tony and Fred Severyn; and his five sisters, Jean Piechnick, Josephine Seward, Louise Cimino, Virginia Mack and Florence DuCharme.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years Marcella; their three children, Linda (fiancée Mark Nickolls) Myers, Donald Severyn and Bryan (Colleen) Severyn, two grandchildren Derek and Wyatt Severyn and many nieces and nephews.
As per Walter’s wishes there will be no Visitation. A memorial Mass and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 11 am in Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish, St. Elizabeth Church. Following the Mass will be a procession to Jefferson Memorial Park Cemetery for his burial with Military Honors.
