AUGUST “AUGIE” SMARRA

August Smarra, age 59 of Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, June 16, 2021.  Augie was born on January 27, 1962, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, one of three children of August and Catherine Virginia (King) Smarra.

He grew up in Jefferson Hills Borough and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1980.  Augie worked 20 years for the Allegheny County Department of Corrections, becoming a Corrections Officer Sergeant.  He was a Life Member of the Jefferson / 885 Volunteer Fire Department in Jefferson Hills, an avid hunter and always found peace at his campground, Runamuck Camp, in Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Lawrence Trimnal.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Valerie (Trimnal) Smarra; children, August L. (Allison) Smarra, John Michael (Joshua) Hart, Brianne (Matthew) Bidzilya, Adriane (Zachary) Smarra and Michael Smarra; two grandsons, Milo Bidzilya and Mason McCoy; his two sisters, Patricia Smarra and Cathy Kearney; his mother-in-law, Shirley Trimnal and all of the others he called his “children”.

Friends will be received in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 Route 51 Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania 15025 (412-384-0350) www.stephendslater.com on Sunday, June 20, 2021 from 1 – 7 PM and on Monday, June 21, 2021 from Noon until the time of his funeral service at 1 PM in the funeral home.
