Antonio “Tony” Alfonsi
Antonio “Tony” Alfonsi, age 93, a life long resident of West Mifflin, Route 885 area, in Pennsylvania, died on Sunday, September 21, 2014. Tony was born June 19, 1921 in Sette Cerre, Italy, one of six children of Giosaffate and Felicia (DiGiacinto) Alfonsi. He worked 43 years for US Steel at the Clairton Works in Clairton, Pennsylvania, served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II and was an avid gardener.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, brothers, Martin, Jack and Thomas Alfonsi and a sister, Eleanor Ficorilli. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Liberata "Libby" (Cerasoli) Alfonsi; two children, son, Anthony (Crystal) Alfonsi and daughter, Rosemarie (Bruno) Bonacchi; four grandchildren, Mary, John, Lucia and Daniel Bonacchi; one sister, Mary Gabriel and nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 1 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home 1701 Route 51 (Large) in Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania. There will be a prayer in the funeral home on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 9 AM with Mass of Christian burial Celebrated at 10 AM in St. Thomas A’ Becket Catholic Church on Gill Hall Road in Jefferson Hills. Father Daniel Maurer, of St. Thomas A' Becket Church and Father Chad Ficorilli, O.S.B., Tony's nephew, will Celebrate the Mass. Tony's burial will follow at graveside in St. Clare Cemetery in Clairton with Military Honors.
