ALBERTA (STOCK) SHERMAN
Alberta “Berta” Sherman, age 92, of Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, passed away Monday, March 21, 2022. She was born April 21, 1929, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and grew up in the Knoxville section of Pittsburgh, one of three children of Gilbert Andrew and Margaret (Walker) Stock.
Berta was a 1946 graduate of South Hills High School, a longtime waitress at the Mona Lisa Restaurant in Brentwood Borough in Pittsburgh, and a member of a Bunco group for over 50 years. She was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan the professional and college teams, especially the Pirates. She was very active in the life of her churches, St. Canice in Knoxville and St. Thomas A’Becket in Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania. Her favorite hobby of all was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Sherman; sisters, Mary M Stock and Sister Elizabeth Ann Stock S.C.
She is survived by her seven children, Peggy Whisner, Robert (Joyce) Sherman, Linda (the late Ron) McEvoy, Eileen (Bob) Scholtz, Marilyn (Brian) Militzer, Tim (Lisa DiNinno) Sherman and Patty (Marty) Rudis; sixteen grandchildren, Jennifer (Frank) Gaito, Gary Whisner, Rachael (Jonathan) White, Robert (Lisa) Sherman, Megan (Travis) Warner, Matthew (Barbie) Chapman, TJ (Chrissy Ramsey) Chapman, Jonathan Chapman, Ronald McEvoy, Susan Gieraltowski, Kim (Mike) Ruffing, Brian Militzer, Angela Militzer, Jessica Militzer, Joshua (Danielle) Militzer and Alberta J Rudis; twenty six great grandchildren, Angie, Frank, Bella, Lilly, Fredrick, Matthew, Owen, Reed, Dylan, Olivia, Alaina, Anthony, Nate, Sophia, Mila, Christopher (Hannah) Ashley, Julie, Courtney, Haylie (Zane Brooks) Camryn, Ben, Hannah, Elijah, Miranda and Gary and three great great grandchildren, Kamari, Nikko and Grayson
Friends will be received in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home, 1701 Route 51, Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania (412-384-0350) www.stephendslater.com on Friday, March 25, 2022 from 2 – 7 pm with a time of remembrance and sharing immediately following visitation from 7 – 8 pm. On Saturday, March 26, 2022 there will be a 9 AM prayer in the Funeral Home, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish, St. Thomas A’Becket Church. If desired Berta’s family suggests contributions to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Cancer Fund.
