EMMETT “SONNY” BAXENDELL
Sonny Baxendell, age 76, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at his residence in Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, surrounded by his family. Formerly of Clairton, Pennsylvania, he was born on April 14, 1941 in Glassport, Pennsylvania one of four children of Emmett Harold Baxendell and Kathryn Pricilla (Pace) Baxendell.
He attended Clairton High School and was an Electrician for US Steel’s Clairton Works, retiring in 2001. Sonny, who served in the US Army after the Korean War, belonged to American Legion Post 75 in Clairton and VFW Post 803 in the Wilson section of Clairton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Love and Joyce Smith and two brother’s-in-law, Charles Lake and Dave Love. Sonny is survived by his wife of 60 years Ellen (Fazio) Baxendell; three children, Emmett C. (Anne) Baxendell III of Clairton, Brett Baxendell of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Troy (Melissa) Baxendell of Pleasant Hills, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren, Tiffany (Tom) Bridge, Jeremy, “Ben” Baxendell, Troy (Alicia) Baxendell, Ryan Baxendell, David Crowe, Dylan Baxendell, Haylee Baxendell, Nick Baxendell and Joy Baxendell; one great-grandson, Charlie Bridge (and one more expected soon!); one sister, Sarah Lake, one brother-in-law, Richard Smith and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home (Large) in Jefferson Hills on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 1 – 3 PM and 6 – 8 PM, where his funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 11:30 AM with his son, Emmett C. Baxendell, III officiating. He will be buried in Jefferson Memorial Park Cemetery in Pleasant Hills.
Sonny loved watching his grandchildren in all of their activities!
